QuantLase Imaging Lab from UAE develops new rapid laser-based COVID-19 testing device

QuantLase Imaging Lab, the medical-research arm of Stock Exchange-listed International Holdings Company (IHC) from Abu Dhabi have developed a new AI-powered laser-based testing equipment that is capable of identifying novel Coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 affected patients rapidly over a mass scale in few seconds. The new equipment was recently tested on large-scale trial and is expected to be made available in the market in a few months time from now. The newly developed device uses a CMOS detector and laser-based DPI (Diffractive Phase Interferometry) technology based on optical-phase modulation to detect the presence of the infection.
It is user-friendly, non-invasive and low-cost. The device is suitable for use not only in hospitals and public places like cinemas and shopping malls, but with a little hands-on training, it can be used for in-house testing and monitoring. We believe it will be a game-changer in tackling the spread of the Coronavirus. With the first 1,000 tests, we refined our experiment and then applied it to the rest of the trials, said Dr Pramod Kumar, who leads the team of researchers at QuantLase Imaging Lab.
